Happy New Year!

Since it’s the time to start making resolutions (or reflecting on old ones) I got to thinking about how I’ve neglected this blog for the past 6-months.  Well it’s a new year and I think it’s time to start blogging again!

 Reflecting on 2012

This  past year was a great year, I grew a lot from 2011 as I learned to balance mommy and work life and I’m so proud to announce we are having a 2nd baby in May.  This will make our kids 2 years and 7 months apart.  We started the year off on a family vacation to Hawaii where we had the most amazing time staying in Maui, visiting Hana, playing at Baby Beach, biking down the volcano (minus the baby), and spending time with our parents and siblings.  This will not be the last time we plan to travel with our families; it was so nice to have built in babysitters so my husband and I could spend a few hours away.  In June, my husband and I drove north to Napa and went wine tasting as a pre-30th birthday vacation.  We have found that spending time alone (without family, friends, or baby) has really helped strengthen our relationship and such an amazing reminder that I married my best friend and partner for life.  In August we took another vacation to our favorite city – San Diego – to watch my sister-in-law play in a volleyball tournament at San Diego State University (our Alumni).  We took Bode and went down with my in-laws and some family friends.  It’s always a different experience traveling with a baby vs. just adults but we had an amazing time as usual in San Diego.  In October our ‘baby’ turned two-years old and we celebrated with a ‘Yo Gabba Gabba’ themed birthday party at our house.  It was a small, intimate event but I know Bode had a great time either way.  Speaking of Bode, as the holidays approached, we decided to transition him into the toddler bed.  Not because he was trying to climb out of his crib, but because we know that there are going to be lots of changes coming up in 2013 that we figured it would be a good time (while we were home for the holidays) to promote him from the crib to the bed.  It was a little rough at first because he rebelled by taking all of his clothes off for the first week, but after that week he seemed to really take pride in his big boy bed and we are happy we decided to make the transition.  We celebrated Christmas Eve with a Gender Reveal party announcing we were going to be having a GIRL and decided that that would also be a great time to announce our news to the (facebook) world as well.  We ended the year spending New Years at home as a family, watching the ball drop, and going to sleep minutes later.

 2013 a NEW year!

This upcoming year is going to be filled with lots of changes and that was one of the main reasons we decided to transition Bode to the toddler bed.  We know having a little sister is going to be a little rough at first especially because he is not only the only child but the only grandchild in both of our families.  We also plan to start potty training and preschool this year to give him more stimulation throughout the day.  We love our daycare and will send our daughter there when I go back to work but as Bode has become such an active little boy I think it will be best for him to start preschool sometime this year.  We have some big home improvements coming up, but the main one is our room addition where we will be taking our current loft and making it into a nursery for baby girl.  Additionally, my big boy will be turning 3 this fall and we’ve decided to take a mini family vacation to Disneyland instead of throwing a birthday party and have invited our families to join us in the festivities.  Also, once the baby is here, I’ll be working hard to get back into shape for the wedding of the year for two of our best friends – Manny and Michelle.  Both Matt (my husband) and I are in the wedding party and Bode will be participating as the ring bearer.  We’re also looking forward to lots of babies in 2013, some older and some younger than baby girl.  Lots to look forward to this year!

I know I probably don’t have many readers out there but I do hope to be more consistent with blogging and talking about this pregnancy starting as soon as tomorrow…  I will be doing my first weekly pregnancy photo and questionnaire when I hit the half-way point at 20 weeks – woohoo!  Even if I don’t have many readers out there it will at least be nice to reflect on this time in our lives when we transitioned from a family of three to a family of four.
